The WUR is rapidly changing as a result of its solid scientific contributions and the great education it offers to students worldwide. At the same time we see that the larger societal context in which the WUR is situated is changing too. We will start up an initiative to understand these historical developments and their influence on the university better.
Wageningen University is an institution with a growing impact worldwide. Students that have gone abroad might have run into people that have heard about the university in very isolated places, at the same time students from almost all nationalities in the world are present in Wageningen. Those that have stuck around for a longer while might also have noticed that the university has a large turnover rate. Some people speak of 'Airport Wageningen'.
With all of this taking place at the same time it isn't always easy to keep track of how the university is developing. Who is still aware of the history of the university as a university of applied sciences tha goes back to the 19th century? Who is still aware of the history of lively student activism in the 1970s that had an important role in updating the university curriculum during the 1970s and 1980s? Who is able to retrace how the university has modernized its policies again in the early 2000s, leading to the exponential growth it is experiencing now?
These are some of the questions that we want to investigate with the Focus @ WUR program.
