OtherWise is hosting an event to raise awareness on violence towards women in Mexico. Feminicides (killing of females for being female) occur throughout the whole country, making Mexico the most dangerous country in the region for women. A constant feature in the last 25 years of systemic violence against women has been the lack of punishment for these crimes. This is a sign manifested societal misogyny, because the state is inable to act to prevent or punish violence against women. In response to this state of injustice, the pink glitter movement emerged in Mexico.

In this event, Charlynne Curiel, former WUR PhD student, will delve into these issues and other current events in Mexico. She will focus on the link between structural violence and the emergence of the pink glitter feminist movement who are tired of Mexico being a country of “women without a State”. Gerard Verschoor (WUR) will moderate the event.

We host this event to raise awareness on violence against women in Mexico. After the talk of Charlynne Curiel, there is space to talk and discuss these issues at Vreemde Streken.
