Invisible Hand - Rights of Nature documentary
Exciting news! On March 13, multiple organisations around the globe will present a screening of the award-winning Rights of Nature documentary ‚INVISIBLE HAND‘ from Executive Producer Mark Ruffalo and Directors Joshua Boaz Pribanic and Melissa Troutman.
INVISIBLE HAND focuses on the global movement of Rights of Nature. According to the ideas of Rights of Nature, nature holds inalienable rights and vital parts of Nature - a river or watershed or ecosystem - shall be granted personhood in the court of law and be provided with legal standing to defend itself.
In the movie we are taken to Grant Township, Pennsylvania, where in the fall of 2014 for the first time in United States history, an ecosystem filed to defend itself in a lawsuit claiming its ‘right to exist'. This didn’t go without a struggle: Grant’s rural community was sued by a corporation and by the state government. Half a continent away in Standing Rock, North Dakota, the same industry threatening Grant Township, is using militarized force against indigenous tribes and allies fighting to protect Mother Earth. The two, Grant Township and Standing Rock, are joined in an international fight to protect more than just water. They fight for their community, democracy, and for Nature as a living entity unto itself. In the end, "Who will speak for Nature?"
Join us on March 13 from 19.00 till 22.00 for this screening! At 20.45 the youth panel begins, where board member Anastasia will speak on behalf of OtherWise Wageningen. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss the latest Rights of Nature ideas with Mark Ruffalo, youth leaders, The Pearl Remote Democratic High School, and filmmakers.
