Climate Anxiety
Forest fires, extreme drought, sea-level rise and plastic soup in the oceans…
We are highly exposed to images and articles on climate change and its consequences for the living beings on the world. Also around us, we can see these changes and consequences. For some people, this leads to feelings of anxiety, stress or depression. In Wageningen, there has been an increasing awareness of these feelings among students and staff of the WUR.
This evening we want to explore the concept of climate anxiety. What are the causes and how does it manifest itself? What are our experiences? And what are ways to give these sad, angry or gloomy feelings a place? We want to create a space to talk about climate anxiety, normalise these feelings, and look at ways to become active change-makers ourselves.
There will be two rounds of workshops, and three workshops to choose from. You can sign in here: https://forms.gle/95ERg1UBS2oBiy4N8

Information about the workshops:
1) Media and Climate Anxiety
Media (conventional and social) play a key in how we perceive the effects of climate change. By portraying and displaying the world's natural disasters in emotional-triggering ways, they are key drivers in amplifying our emotions and our feelings of anxiety and despair. It will be an interactive workshop with a short talk from an expert followed by an activity where we share our thoughts about the topic.
2) Biomimicry: Design by Nature's Genius
Be inspired by the solutions we can find in nature to restore our life-supporting ecosystems and envision a future in balance with nature. Learn the basics of biomimicry, explore biological strategies and tools like Ask Nature and Life's Principles during our workshop and brainstorm session.
3) Visualizing climate change
What comes to mind when you think of climate change? In this workshop we will explore climate anxiety in a more hands-on and creative way, namely by making a collage. There will be enough magazines, scissors and glue so everyone can do some crafting safely. You can also bring your own craft supplies. After we made our collage, we will go into a discussion based on our collages and explore our thoughts and experiences further.
