To our regret we have decided that the activities of next week cannot continue due to the Corona virus outbreak. We were looking forward to celebrate the lustrum week of OtherWise together, but with the situation now, this would not be ethically responsible. We hope to postpone these activities and to celebrate the lustrum another time.

How can we reimagine our economy to be sustainable and equitable? As a part of the OtherWise 20 year lustrum celebration 'Imagine OtherWise', OtherWise together with Movie W will screen 'The commons', a documentary that is about a community-driven way of organising our economy.

The Commons: Reclaiming What is Ours (EN - sub: EN) is a documentary film about communities striving for a sustainable future using consensus, equity and shared resources – ancient Commons principles. The film addresses the increasing privatization and destruction of commons. It shows how many activists are re-establishing communities and controlling their own commons through land trusts, cooperatives, local food production, shared housing, free education and community centres.

The movie will be introduced by Gerrit Stegehuis from the Dutch Degrowth Movement. He will talk about the philosophy of degrowth and how this is related to the re-establishment of commons. Degrowth is a social movement and academic field that envisions pathways to a sustainable future. These pathways include a democratic and redistributive downscaling of the material size of the global economy, a measure that would allow societies to stay within the reproductive limits of ecosystems.

The screening is for free and therefore it is not possible to make a reservation. Donations are welcome and there will be a donation box at the venue.
