The Impact of Collaboration

Organised by Stichting Otherwise Wageningen
Date

Tue 25 May 2021 17:30 to 19:00

With the arrival of Unilever on campus, questions and concerns about the influence of large companies on research and education are arising. Students and professors are worried about the university’s independence and what it means to science. Some question to what extent WUR’s research agenda is influenced by these collaborations and which is the impact on the way sensitive topics such as sustainability, agriculture and food production are taught at University. Others state that collaborations lead to more knowledge exchange, higher impact and have advantages for students’ career developments.

What do you think about the impact of collaboration: How far do we want to go? RUW Foundation and Otherwise, in collaboration with Wageningen Dialogues, host an ''interactive talk show'' about the impact of collaboration between the university and the private sector. The aim is to give space to all perspectives so you can shape, sharpen or even adjust your opinion.

Therefore, a diverse panel is brought together, to discuss the issue at hand with each other and with you: Solina Diallo (student), Ernst van den Ende (Director of Plant Science Group, WUR), Bram Büscher (Chair Sociology of Development and Change group, WUR), Anne Mensink (Business Developer Wageningen Campus), Manfred Aben (Global Vice President Science & Technology and site leader Food Innovation Centre Wageningen, Unilever) and Phil Macnaghten (Personal Chair in Technology and International Development).

After the talk show with our panel, an open dialogue and interactive discussion with the online audience will take place. The evening is moderated by Sigrid Smeele, from de Droomfabriek.
