Stories

With Stories the Urge to Tell we are working on a body of art that expresses the underlying ideas that people take away from participating in the discussions and the art sessions.
This first poem is how we opened the movie screening of Violeta Went to Heaven and it expresses beautifully the power of stories to us! We hope that many may follow!

        There is
        a tremendous force, power
in words
as they are reflections of our soul

        There is
        a tremendous power, kracht,
        in each of us
            expression through words
            image
is exposing this force, power:
        making yourself visible

       we carry stories in us

       stories heal us
                    listening to them
or
                   telling them

what defines a story?   and
what defines the telling of a story?

it is like being nude -
          vulnerable
       nothing to hide

Trough stories we exist.
              stories of creation.

       telling our cosmologies,
       experiences
imperfections. desires.
reflections of our ancestors
culture. history. resistance

       STORIES tell them
in a dance, movement. imitating
a bird maybe or breaking lose imaginary chains that
once people really carried and some still do.
tell them in a play, an improvisation - tell them in a sigh,
a whisper, a look.    Tell them unconsciously -
when someone uses, let's say, the word 'Home' this one word
has a meaning, tells a particular story full of colours, scents, sounds.

Tell them in a song or tell them
in a poem. your story, the one of those
whose voice is silenced (...)  tell them just
exploring    the myriad of ways existing
in which they can be told.
in a piece of embroidery, tapestry, painting, a sculpture (...)
           in a silence.

Telling makes visible, tangible.
heals and comforts

It creates and honours a Higher Good. Magic. Believes.
Folklore. Sacredness.

When we tell a story we give shape to an Universal,
Cosmic Good some call God, some call Love some call Light.
Whatever name is has - or you give it - expressing ourselves
we set in motion. We move this spark, this light, this
intangible matter that flies with the wind as we pronounce

There is an urge in storytelling.
An urge to let the voice sound
an urge to make visible what is covered.

Storytelling is un-covering, dis-covering the Soul.
it goes beyond fear - though it makes us feel
vulnerable, naked.

       it is exploring our boundaries.

Stories. tell them. those of others
those of you those of everyone.
But tell them because they make us exist. connect. remember
that we ARE. one.
